Plants provide countless phytochemical compounds, still entirely unknown today. Their best intake and effectiveness are recommended in the form of high-potency, high-quality standardized extracts. Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a small North American palm tree named for the spiny stems with saw-like teeth at the base of each leaf. The extract is obtained from its dark berries, usually harvested between August and September. Its use dates back to the Seminole Indians and the Mayans, who used this plant as a tonic, expectorant, and antiseptic. It has also been traditionally used for male problems. Each capsule provides a total of 160 mg of saw palmetto berry oil extract (equivalent to 1440 mg of powdered berry) with an 85% to 95% fatty acid and sterol content. Like our Prostex® product, it is a concentrated extract that provides levels equivalent to those used in relevant scientific studies. Few companies produce all their herbal products in extract form, but at LAMBERTS®, we believe it is essential to do so. Therefore, while the "whole herb" alternative sounds great, it is simply the dried plant material, which will provide primarily fiber and few active ingredients (and this is if it can be digested). LAMBERTS® herbs are concentrated, soluble, and a guarantee of safety and efficacy.
